A court in the US has ordered a woman to pay $222,000 (£109,0 00) in damages for illegally file-sharing music.

The jury ordered Jammie Thomas, 32, from Minnesota, to pay for offering to share 24 specific songs online - a cost of $9,250 per song.

But the fine could have been millions, as record companies said she illegally shared a total of 1,702 songs.

maybe it's just me but in the grand scheme of things isn't $9,250 for a track that's about $0.10 through legit distribution overkill?

if u use file sharing programs... make sure that users cannot browse your files... or move the files from yr shared folder. This defeats the purpose of file sharing.... but it keep the feds out of your hard drive.

torrents are generally slow... and I have a hi speed fios line. I cyar image using torrents on dial up.. must be like watching paint dry.

I cannot comprehend using dial-up on a whole. Used it once and I nearly destroyed the pc. And you're right.. Torrents are way too slow.... I use LimeWire Pro and my dl speed for normal stuff is sometimes 230kps, and when I download torrents it's 20kbps or lower
